Micro hair replacement surgery - the facts

We all value our image. How we look seems to be more important to us now than ever before. Image plays a part in almost every aspect of our lives today. Problems with your hair can make you look older as well as affecting your confidence levels. For both men and women the effect of hair loss in today’s image conscious and super fast environment can be devastating.

Hair Replacement Surgery has benefited from the introduction of new techniques resulting in affordable procedures. There is no need to worry about coming in to talk to us. We offer good sound advice because we have been in this business since the beginning. We feel we are in a unique position to advise you. Most of our patients become old friends. They don’t mind us showing you what we have done for them, if it can work for others it can work for you! For most people the only really successful answer to hair loss is Precision mini and micro hair graft surgery. However, the thought of surgery, although minor, for most people can create all sorts of questions that need to be answered before proceeding. In our minds the ‘what if’ syndrome starts to build all sort of uncertainties – ‘have I made the correct decision – can I afford the cost of the procedure’ and the biggest question of them all is ‘will it work for ME’? Don’t worry, Michael May the surgeon and Terry Roper the Trichological Consultant have over fifty years combined experience of dealing with your anxieties. By discussing and showing how similar procedures have helped other patients, many of these questions can be resolved.

In fact both Michael and Terry take the view that time spent with new patients explaining in detail what can be done to overcome their specific hair problem is very important.

A NEW TECHINQUE HAS REVOLUTIONISED THE HAIR REPLACEMENT INDUSTRY

Male Pattern Baldness affects two out of three of the world’s male population and over recent years, perhaps because of the stresses of daily life, women and increasingly more younger women are experiencing thinning hair.

During the seventies the procedure known as Plug Surgery or Punch Grafting was developed. This type of procedure required the removal of circular plugs of hair bearing skin from donor areas at the side and the back of the head. These plugs were then transplanted into previously bald or thinning areas. However, Plug surgery was soon found to have its limitations, it produced an effect known as dolls hair or dolls head or corn row resulting in an aesthetically unattractive tufted look.

This treatment obviously required considerable improvement and during the late eighties a new technique was developed that revolutionised the Hair Replacement Industry. The new technique not only replaces hair in a way that resembles your natural hair, but is also an affordable option for the many million of sufferers all around the world.

Micro incision slit grafting surgery had arrived. At last sufferers of Male Pattern Baldness and Female Pattern Hair Loss have an option that will provide them with their own growing hair that is indistinguishable from natural hair growth.

A local anaesthetic allows the removal of a strip of hair-bearing skin. From this donor area micro and mini follicular units are prepared. These individual hair follicules are then placed into tiny incisions within the area that requires the new hair. These micro incisions are so small that they heal without scarring. The whole procedure is over within two to three hours and the patient is able to go home the same day. No bandaging or dressings are required. The whole procedure is carried out in just 2 – 3 hours.

Your hair loss classification

Hair Loss Classification

80% of all men experience some degree of hair loss, or Male Pattern Baldness (MPB), during their lifetimes. The diagrams on the left illustrate how MPB often advances. Select the classification you believe best illustrates your own pattern of hair loss, then at the time of your private consultation, the doctor will determine your actual classification. Based upon this accurate diagnosis, he will recommend an individual programme designed to restore your natural- looking head of hair.

Hair transplantation has continued to improve over the past 5 years. The use of micro grafts (single hairs) allows the surgeon to produce a completely natural hairline. Larger areas of baldness can be covered with an acceptable density of the patients own growing hair.
